WHAT TO EAT IN PHI PHI ?
FISH, SEAFOOD
Southern Thailand is an ideal place to taste new flavors from the sea. In Koh Phi Phi,
restaurants along the sea proudly showing off the catch of the day, placed on ice. The cook usually prepares lobster and seafood in front of the customer.

SAUTEED MEAT
Thrown into the wok, everything can be sauteed with just about anything : meat, vegetables, rice, fish, shellfish. This wok cooking requiring very little fat is quite healthy. To test a few original dishes, try for example:
Minced chicken with cashew nuts and dried chilli (kai phat met mamuang himaphaan).
Fried Beef in oyster sauce (neua phat naam man hawy).
NOODLES
Made from rice flour, noodles are served in various forms:
In soup, with chicken or beef, vegetables and some cilantro (kuaytiaw naam).
Sauteed with minced meat (kuaytiaw phat), with Chinese cabbage (phak kha naa) or shrimp (phat thai).
In spicy salad, with lemon and pepper (yam wun sen).
There are thin noodles (sen lek) and wider noodles (sen yai). Very thin noodles, like transparent vermicelli, are called "wun sen". They are made from mung bean starch.
CURRY
Fresh and light, Thai curry can however be dangerous! Thais are not always aware of our sensitivity, they eat it for so long! Make it clear to the waiter you want a dish not too spicy. If the curry is pre-prepared, you can then choose another dish. The tourist restaurants usually indicate the spicier dishes.
The red curry is made with a paste of red chilies.
The green curry, made with green chilies, is milder.
It is usually prepared with coconut cream, which gives it its creamy texture.
FRIED STUFFS
The street stalls are specialists in these savory snacks - such as fried chicken (kai thawt) - or sweet - such as fried bananas (kluay thawt).
RICE
In southern Thailand, as in the rest of the country, rice comes with most dishes. You should definitely taste the jasmine long grain rice (khao hawm mali).
Dishes served with rice are generally identified by the words "kap khao".
